"I...," she looked down, "I thought so... Nick...I...if things hadn't happened before we met, then...then I would have said something. You remind me of Marcel, but I also see you as who you are." She reached out her hand to touch his face softly, "I..."
She moved a little closer to him. So much had happened to cause her to change, since that apocalypse had happened here, in London. She had lost who she could have been, becoming OOO, being with Mezool.
Sometimes she would want to change that, but she was glad with how things went. But looking at what could have been, she kissed him. Her life could have been like this...

Nick slowly kissed her back...feeling at peace.....feeling warmth return to him, in a sense....he put his hands on her arms, almost closing his eyes...but not doing that...but then, he saw something out of one eye...something that McKenzie couldn't see...

This almost felt right. It didn't; it felt good, it was something that she felt she needed. But it didn't feel right. Not in these circumstances, not with Joseph still on her mind; that was the problem. But...in time, in a short period of time, maybe...once she would be able to move past what had happened.
No; it wouldn't be a short time. Why would she think that? Was she that naive?

It felt good to him...and he probably would have taken her then and there if it wasn't a public place....but then he saw it...the reflection of light, off the sniper scope's glass...from across the street. Banishing such thoughts from his mind....time seemed to slow for him...his life flashed before his eyes...and he hugged McKenzie tighter for a moment, taking one last ounce of strength from her presence, before his grip loosened.
"I love you, McKenzie Williams." He said, after a moment, giving his final words. "But I fear that my love will be mostly unrequited....and..." he gave, looking her over one last time. "You're amazingly beautiful." His grip left her completely, his face changing, a look of peace....and resignation to his fate.....the horrible reality of what was about to happen would hit her as he used his hands to push her away, his last words, to her, being, "Get Down!"....

She hit the ground when he pushed her. What was happening? She knew there had to be a reason, but what was it? What was happening. She reached up for him. If something was happening, then...then she had to try to help him.

The first shot was spat from the rifle, as Nick went for his side-arm....slamming through his stomach, and going out the other side. She could see this in vivid detail as he cried out, going to one knee, pointing his pistol at something further on....the second shot was fired, hitting him through the shoulder as he fired three shots across the street, two of them hitting cars but one of them finding its mark as the third shot found its mark, striking Nick through the clavicle and shoulder area...and he fell to the ground on his back, the sniper having been taken out as well

"Nick!" she screamed, crawling towards him, grabbing at his hand, "No! This can't be happening...no...no... I can get you help," she said, climbing up to her feet, "I'll get help...," she said again, desperate, tears in her eyes.
