The girl shifted in Jess' arms just enough so that she could turn and look at the cop. A long moment passed as she tried to decide whether to do anything or not... and then, fortunately, she did.
"My name's Melissa... Brown." She said slowly and quietly. Jess almost missed it because it was such a whisper. "Mom and Dad made me... made me run away from them."
Tears began to pool in the girl's eyes. Jess swallowed. That was definitely not a good sign...

KEEP? No, they weren't this stupid. A group that were just establishing themselves as a proper political party were not going to try and kill an innocent child were they? So who was this guy.

Well, that guy's actions had stopped the tears. Jess was thankful for that. When all was said and done, she really wasn't any good with children. So not having to deal with a bawler was a good thing in her book.
"Yeah, uh... like he said." She tried to mimic Damien's re-assurance... with questionable results. "Well find your parents, don't worry about it. We're just going to go talk to the cops. They're the good guys, right? They'll help you out."
She followed after the guy, trying to stick close enough to be counted among his number but far enough away that she wouldn't get in the way. Making a nuisance of herself would not help matters any.

"We're not going to find out here." Dillon says grabbing the unconscious body and lifting it with far more ease than should be possible.
"Let's take this downtown. We're making a scene and increasing the risk that whoever did this will send more." He explains as he drops the metahuman in the back of a police cruiser.

He suddenly realised that he was next to a young girl and looked down at the small child.
"Um ... don't say that word, it's not a nice one," He said "... Hi there I'm Kyle,"

Once in the privacy of the cruiser Dillon turns to face Damien. "You're not fully human are you?"

Kyle knelt down next to the child and smiled.
"Hi ..." He said, only just realising that he had no skill with children at all "... Do you wanna ride in a police van?"
None. Whatsoever.

Jess resisted the urge to roll her eyes as Melissa slowly shook her head. Wasn't this turning out wonderfully? It was just jolly. Sir Take-Charge over there seemed to have stranded the poor child with the only two present who had absolutely no parenting skills.
"Okay, Jack." She said, not at all concerned with what this guy's name really was. "I think this is a case of 'do' more than 'ask'. Let's get the girl away from the place that she was almost-- well, y'know. Then we can try and figure out where her parents are? Deal?"

They had ice-cream somewhere in there, probably some orange juice and, more likely than not, someone with better child skills than they did.
