Marvelous kept parrying Basco's own attacks with his sword. However, being a pirate, he wasn't going to play fair; he knew for sure Basco wouldn't. So while he continued to parry and be parried, he put his other hand behind his back to summon another sword.

He leapt back, putting some distance in, drawing his sword up the length of his body while pushing his left arm behind his back, in the small of his back, to keep it contained for now. He lowered the blade again, looking down the inward curve of the katana to Marvelous.
As Joe watched, he slowly realized, "Marvelous!"

Marvelous, however, was being very watchful of Basco's movements, ready to summon a second sword that would best suit the situation.

Basco continued to use his strange fencing based style, despite his katana being worthless for it.

Marvelous continued to parry, and he looked back at Joe. "What is it?" he asked.

"Tell him, and I'll kill your precious Princess!" Basco told Joe, parrying and thrusting.
Ahim and Joe looked at each other, but Joe looked to Marvelous, "It's a style that only one sort of man would ever use!"

Marvelous nodded, understanding... The only fighting style Joe would for sure recognize would be that of Cid. He knew what he had to do, and quickly summoned the Road Saber and swinging it while parrying Basco's attacks.

"That style is the Galactic Navy!" Joe shouted.
Basco glared at him, "Your little Princess is going to be down one head, soon."

"The Navy was destroyed by Zangyack. No survivors. They slew everyone who tried to join them. Basco shouldn't be alive!" Joe shouted.

Marvelous swung both swords at Basco again in an attempt to strike at Basco.
