Overview:
Otoha comes across as relatively relaxed. He treats people, spirit and mortal alike, with kindness. A trait that really comes across in his job as a spiritual doctor. He believes it his duty to be Karas and defend Tokyo. As a Karas, his love for Tokyo is almost unmatched. He becomes upset at the mention of life, because he can never experience a full life again. He always tries to see or bring out the best in people, if he can.

History
Otoha comes from Tokyo. He is the result of a forbidden love between his mother and his much older brother, Yusuke. Otoha grew up in a fairly harsh part of Tokyo. He went to school, but always faced being attacked every day on his way home. Despite his background, he kept a positive outlook, claiming that he always saw the best in Tokyo wherever he was.
After finishing school, he was drafted into the Yakuza by his school friend Reiji. The two served the Yakuza for many years, each of them becoming distingushed in their own ways. Otoha became known as "The Red Samurai" because of his skill with a blade and loose code of honor that none of the others had. Reiji, on the other hand, became "The Sniffer" because of his skills in tracing shipments of anything. One night, after a job, Reiji came to Otoha's house and asked for help: he had stolen a large amount of money from the Yakuza and they were coming for him. Together, Otoha and Reiji made plans to flee Tokyo and get to Osaka. But at the train station, the Yakuza caught up with him. In the short fight that followed, Reiji was captured by the Yakuza thugs, and Otoha was thrown in front of a bullet train, killing him.
Yet Otoha's spirit remained intact. In a panic, his spirit asked for help in protecting someone dear to him, and that attracted the attention of Yurine, a spirit powered by the will of the citizens of Tokyo. She told him that, if he wished, he would become Karas, and defend Tokyo against the "Invisible Threats". In exchange, Otoha would help the spirits as a doctor. Over the years that followed, Otoha learned more and more about the way that the spirit and human worlds are intertwined, how the Mikura came into being, and even of the Makai Knights, with whom it was noted that any Karas had a bit of a rivalry with.

Otoha paced up and down his room, turning the pages of a book. The words on the pages seemed to vanish every time he turned the page, only to be replaced with new words on the new page.
"There's nothing here." He muttered to himself. "Not even in some of the forbidden books."
"You will not find your answer there." Came the humble voice of Yurine, who was crouching on a chair. "These books do not have the answer you seek."
"But they have to! They must!" Otoha exclaimed. "I need to find out what ails these spirits. It's unlike anything I've ever seen before."
"It is their work." Yurine said flatly. By "their", Otoha assumed it meant "Mikura".
"It can't be." Otoha clapped a hand to his forehead. "If that is the case, then we need to examine a Mikura if we are to find out the answers."
"Then we must enter the human world." Yurine said, getting off her chair. "Prepare yourself, Karas."
Otoha gripped the Kariaser in his pocket. "Yes, Yurine-sama."
