The Earl gasped as he realised what he had just done, "I'm sorry" he said to Rei, "I must've scared you...please don't. I'm not...well I'm kind of...it's a complicated and long story."

The Earl chuckled, "So you can read me...interesting, but more to the point...yes I have no choice Rei, my soul has been consumed by the darkness...I now serve Azrael, an Angel of Death, who promised me the death of the time-traveller Den-O...the one who murdered my cousin. Rei, please I don't want you to get hurt...soon Japan will become a war zone and I don't know if you're going to be safe if you keep staying here. I can protect you now but soon...soon not even I can protect you from Azrael and the other Horsemen of the Apocalypse."

"I see..." the Earl muttered, "you're right Rei...revenge isn't the way but what can I do? I'm bounded to Azrael, to War itself...even if I wanted to I can't break it, I've done far too much damage to back out now. I know Elizabeth would hate me for what I'm doing now but I can't let it go...if I back out then I will be killed...I'm sorry Rei but I have to do this...then perhaps, perhaps I can return to the Light or be further drawn into the Darkness."

"Rei..." the Earl muttered then hugged her tightly, "thank you...perhaps you are the one that will pull me out of the darkness but until that day comes...it will continue to shackle me to Azrael's will" then he disappeared into the forest thinking on Rei and hoping that one day her words may be right and that he will break free from Azrael's will and hopefully return to what he once was: a warrior of Light, someone to protect the smiles of others. But for now...he will become the champion of Darkness and destroy the hope of Humanity.

Rei was surprised that he hugged her tightly, but indulged him this once. "Then fare you well." she said after he let go, and once he disappeared she shook her head, deciding to head away from this place for the moment as she pulled out the Blast Shot.
She fired it into the air, a bright red flare going into the sky, which summoned the Stone Fluegel. It descended from the sky, and Rei began to glow bright blue before disappearing inside it as it changed to a red color, and then the craft flew off to parts unknown...
