"Honest? I'm not the one who declined to hear my story, my offer of honesty. But fine, do as you will, thinking that dinner automatically meant we were together, or something." Takeda called after her, at least paying for the dinner before walking after her, since he had to go out the same way.

She turned to him, "I would hear your story, but sometimes it's better not to relive the sadness of the past. And no...I...thought it meant there could be more...," she said, saying the end softly.

Takeda waited for a moment, listening to the soft part, then he glared at her. "You're spoiled." he said finally. "You no doubt had parents that loved you, and nothing bad ever happened to them, hmm? Well pardon me for being someone who made his own way....who came home to find his parents brainwashed, leading an army of monsters....who had to walk the dimensions....who had to take on a burden by himself, the burden of protecting freedom. I lost everything. And yet I have a second chance....and I found other people, who were like me...and pulled them into the light. I treated them to a second chance, so they wouldn't have to experience the hopelessness and shame of having lost it all. I wanted to treat you to a nice dinner, to celebrate, then take you to your home, hopefully parting as friends, but you had to go and ruin that. Those I protect...will go on living their lives, never knowing of the pain I bear in silence. I warned you it was a dark tale, Aoiii...." he gave, drawing out her name as he looked at her. "And you have the nerve to accuse me of being like someone that I have never met, nor care to meet...I share nothing in common with him. If you learn anything, after your crying, learn this. Don't assume things about people. Accept them for who they are, not who you would like them to be."

She took his story to heart, listening, she owed him that much.
"Call me spoiled if you want...I don't care anymore," she said softly, "You can call me spoiled, as I call you dishonest," she left it at that and walked away.

"That's what you are." Takeda said, turning and walking to his bike. "Though you could have asked me if I was taken. Remember that....remember communication in the future, and I hope you don't treat the people you rescue that way. Sayonara." he said, getting on his bike, putting on his helmet and starting the engine.

"How was I supposed to think to ask, with the way you acted?" she called, hurrying to his bike, "The way you talked, the whispers, everything. You're the one who made me think...who made me think that there was nobody else..."

Takeda snorted a little, removing the helmet and sitting astride his bike to look at her. "Trying to get in the last word? Or are you just trying to make me feel guilty and apologize to you? I was willing to take you back to your house, but I doubt you want that. And how were you supposed to think? The same way you're asking me how I was supposed to think to tell you if I was taken or not, when I was unaware of your interest and caught up in the events that happened because I had a responsibility."

"I'm...I'm not good with this sort of thing," she said, "I thought...I thought you could tell..."

Takeda sighed...a long sigh. "Aoi..." he began, looking at her. "It looks like we've each assumed a lot about the other. And regrettably it's come back to haunt us. Why are you still wanting to talk to me? I'm sure you could be making better use of it elsewhere."

"Because I want you to know where I'm coming from," she told him.

"Why, though? We didn't get anywhere." Takeda said, sighing. "I know you don't want to be around me further, and I'm fine with that....having been called much worse than dishonest."

"So you don't take the wrong impression of me away, and can understand why I'm mad," she told him.

Now that made him chuckle just a little. "The wrong impression? I know your type...a traditionalist, not much of a social life outside the occasional friendship, only looking to find that one special person and be with them for the rest of their lives. And you're mad at me because I didn't fit into that at all."

"I'm mad at you for playing with my emotions and then not telling me about the other woman," she told him.

"I gathered that much. That and it didn't fit into your ideal of things, after all." Takeda retorted. "My ideal is much more ... accommodating and open-minded. Flirting with adversity, standing on the edge of every cliff...another exciting yet so...invigorating clash with danger. Having a level of confidence that only those who can back it up can have..."
