It was lonely, in Marilen's mind, Blancwing realized...and that made her sad. Even with the events she'd witnessed, and the fight's she'd been in...it wasn't the same. She held no ill-will towards her new contract holder...but it just felt like something was amiss.
So the swan lay, at a slightly disturbed rest...until feeling a presence coming...a mental representation of Marilen's human form, approaching her.

"I can't provide you the company you should have," Marilen said to Blancwing, "I'm sorry. I...also feel that I'm not as good as Natsumi was, as your partner."

"I don't mind..." Blancwing said half-heartedly. For some reason, the psychic power felt like a prison, and she couldn't talk to Marilen at times, because she had been shut out from mental communication. "You're...a good partner, I'm glad I can help protect you." she added, trying to be positive, and focus on what she'd been asked to do.

"I'm not used to having a partner. Well, I am," she said, "When I was Fleigha, I kind of had one. But not like this."

"What was that partner like? And what was Fleigha?" Blancwing asked. She'd tried to learn more about her new partner, but found that she was unable to look at any of Marilen's memories.

"The Rider I once was. My partner was Frost Raven, though it was sealed, so to speak. It couldn't speak or do much, other than grant me its power," she said, not even knowing gender.

"I see." the beast replied thoughtfully. "In a sense, I'm the same way. I can only thrive in the Mirror World...which is desolate...and I can only speak in the mind of my partner. I...tried to learn more about you, but could not." she admitted.

"Why couldn't you?" she asked.

"Your...power." Blancwing said, having heard references of "psychic" but she wasn't sure how to phrase it. "It...it's like a prison. To reach out to you, and get no answer....to try and learn more about you, and be rebuffed by it...But when you want to talk to me, everything's fine, and when you need my power, I'm set free. Otherwise, I'm shut out, whether you intended to or not."

"I'm sorry about that," Marilen said, "I'd have kept it down if I had known."

"It is alright." Blancwing said to her. "You couldn't have known."

"...you're right." Blancwing said. "Sorry." she added, awkwardly.

"It's ok," she said, reaching out to touch Blancwing.

The swan lowered her head so Marilen could pet her, without a word.
