Why was he alone here? He barely knew Japanese, but had been made to learn a while back just in case something like this would happen. But why him, when there were others who could have done it?
At least the women were good to look at. But flirting didn't come well with the language and cultural barrier...

Mina was off school, as she had called in sick and decided to pull a Ferris Bueller. She had left Artemis back at the apartment, and was simply enjoying the day, earning and taking in the fresh air. She sat down on a park bench and pulled a magazine out of her bag and began paging through it.

Jerome looked around. The women were good to look at, but again, his problem was a barrier.
He ended up near Mina's location and sighed, running his hand through his hair to groom it and sat down, not seeing her, too focused right now on figuring this barrier out than noticing someone even a few feet away.

Mina noticed Jerome showing up, and also noticed he looked kind of stressed. She figured he wouldn't know little to any Japanese, so she remembered a few lessons in English from when she was younger, and asked, "Is something wrong?"

He looked to her, "Oh good, someone with English," he said, smiling for that reason and for this meeting, "Just trying to...," what lie? "find something worth my time."

Mina was a little taken aback. Did he just call her pretty? It certainly sounded like it. She sat there for a moment, deciding what to say.

Mina regained her composure after realizing she probably looked totally stupid. She chuckled and said, "Sorry, I got distracted. We're you saying something."
