The location, an island off of the coast of Washington state, which would take a two hour ferry to go back and forth between. A population of around 8000 live here, on Raventree. It's a pretty well-off island city, which would be hard to differentiate from the average city on the mainland. Around fifteen miles by ten miles in size, with beach on the north, east and south sides, and cliffs along the west that drop into the ocean. It's a beautiful location, a nice city, with a mix of small town charm in its architecture that harkens back to older days, along with modern styles of buildings as well, lacking anything massive in height for the sake of preserving the beauty.
The island was settled in the late 1800's, living with minimal contact with the mainland at any given time. Even today it is common for there to be gaps of two to three weeks without communication between them. The islanders prefer to keep to themselves, and the mainland doesn't care much about them anymore, because of the Cliffords family.
The Cliffords once lived on the mainland. Their two sons went to fight in World War I when it occurred, but they brought disgrace onto their family in the war, and in the aftermath of it. The parents further brought disgrace down through a series of actions, one of which being the refusal to marry their daughter off into a well respected family. Due to the actions of the family, they left the mainland in disgrace and went to the island. They faced further disgrace there, and had to keep living with the old. They moved into a house on the cliffs of the western side. The parents threw themselves over the side, the sons vanished, and the daughter hung herself. No investigation was ever carried out, despite some claims of mysterious sightings in the area just prior to these events. Some say they see ghosts in the area, and even along some of the beaches. Ghosts of the Cliffords.
These ghosts aren't the only strange sightings or occurrences on Raventree. People continue to claim seeing strange figures, whether they be robed figures or men in masks who seem to vanish. There are strange things on the island, such as a number of people wearing swords and even duels in the streets - a common occurrence, completely legal - keeping up with some of the themes of the island, such as the architecture, and even the continued practice of trial by combat.
Theories are spread about on Raventree. Ghosts, demons, hauntings, assassins, monsters, magic. Rumors and stories spread to all corners of the island, and everyone has their own belief. To an outsider, Raventree would be quite the sight, but to the people living there, this is life, and the mystery it brings.
